Ποντικόν κάρυον

Etymology
From Ποντικόν (Pontikón, “of Pontus”), from Πόντος (Póntos, “Pontus, a region on the southeastern shores of the Black Sea”), + κάρυον (káruon, “nut”). The name is referring to the fruit’s indigenousness and abundance in Pontus. Compare Latin nux Pontica (“hazelnut”).
