Etymology

Calque of German gewillt. Learnedly but erroneously formed as a passive perfect participle of θέλω (thélo), from Ancient Greek ἐθέλω (ethélō) (which has no such participle), by analogy with ημαρτημένος (imartiménos), archaic/learned passive perfect participle of αμαρτάνω (amartáno), from Ancient Greek ἁμαρτάνω (hamartánō) / ἡμᾰρτημένος (hēmartēménos).[1]
