Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek κύανος (kúanos), or from Mediaeval Byzantine Greek κυανός (kuanós, adjective), from Ancient Greek κῠᾰνοῦς (kuanoûs)/κῠᾰ́νεος (kuáneos, adjective) from κύανος (kúanos, noun).[1] Cognate with Mycenaean Greek 𐀓𐀷𐀜 (ku-wa-no) and Tsakonian κουβάνε.[2]
