Etymology[edit]
From Ancient Greek κύανος (kúanos, “blue, various blue materials or things”), probably a loanword from or akin to Hittite [script needed] (kuwannan-, “precious stone, copper, blue”), and/or ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwey- (“to shine, white, light”) (see white).
