Etymology

Often assigned to Proto-Indo-European *(s)mer- (to fall into thinking, remember, care for) or *mer- (to die)[1][2], which is acknowledged by Beekes, but he finds it unconvincing and instead derives it from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pregrc" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF..[3]
