Etymology

Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *med- (to measure) and cognate with Ancient Greek μέδομαι (médomai, to provide for), Latin modus (measure; manner) and Proto-Germanic *mētō (measure). According to Beekes, from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pregrc" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. because of the presence of the cluster "-μν-".
