Etymology[edit]

From μόγος (mógos) +‎ -έω (-éō). The etymology of μόγος is uncertain. Possibly from earlier *σμόγος (cf. σμογερόν (smogerón)) and perhaps cognate Lithuanian smargus (heavy, tiresome), Latvian smag(r)s.
