Etymology

From Ancient Greek ὀμίχλη (omíkhlē), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃migʰleh₂ (mist, cloud). Compare Albanian mjegull, Polish mgła, Latvian and Lithuanian migla (fog). Compare also Armenian մեգ (meg), Persian میغ (meġ, cloud, fog), Sanskrit मेघ (meghá) from a related root.
