Etymology[edit]

Katharevousa learned borrowing from Koine Greek προχοΐς (prokhoḯs, chamber pot), diminutive of Ancient Greek πρόχους (prókhous, ewer, wine jug) by semantic influence of the latter; itself from προ- (pro-) +‎ χοῦς (khoûs, measure of liquid capacity), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰew-.
