New meaning acquired by Proto-Slavic *vĕnьcь (wreath, garland), from *vĕnъ (wreath) + *-ьcь, details of further origin unclear (possibly from Proto-Indo-European *woh₁y-nos or derived later) but ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *weh₁y- (to twist, wind, weave).
