Etymology

From Old East Slavic [Term?], cognate to compare to Belarusian жо́нка (žónka). Equivalent to жона́ (žoná) +‎ -ка (-ka). The root is from Proto-Slavic Proto-Slavic *žena, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *génāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷḗn.
