[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *kočkəŕə, likely derived from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *kočka~*kočke (“corner”), whence Finnish kotkata (“to clinch, clench”).
Akin to Moksha кочкяря (kočkäŕa).
