Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *moltъ, from Proto-Indo-European *melh₂- ‎(to grind, crush), whence also млѣти ‎(mlěti, to grind). Compare similar semantic development from the same Proto-Indo-European root in Latin malleus ‎(hammer), beside the usual reflex molō ‎(I grind).
