[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Crimean Tatar muşmula, from Ottoman Turkish مشمله (muşmula), from Greek μούσμουλο (moúsmoulo). As the Crimean Russian term, due to the submediterranean climate preferred by the plant it has succeeded in displacing the forms of the word ши́шка (šíška, “strobilus, bulb”) used for the medlar as the native Russian term.
