From Proto-Slavic *nagъ, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *nogʷó- (naked). Compare Polish nagi, Old Church Slavonic нагъ (nagŭ), Lithuanian nuogas, English naked, German nackt, Greek γυμνός (gymnós), Irish nocht, Hindi नंगा (naṅgā), Sanskrit नग्न (nagna).
