Etymology

From Old East Slavic осень (osenĭ), from Proto-Slavic *(j)esenь, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁es-en-, whence English earn and German Ernte (harvest).

Doublet of есень (jesenʹ) and есеня (jesenja), cognate with Belarusian во́сень (vósjenʹ) and Ukrainian о́сінь (ósinʹ).
