Usage notes

[edit]
  • The terms has four possible pronunciations, only [ɐˈt͡ɕeʂnʲɪk] (respelled "оче́шник") is considered standard.
  • Since letter ё is not mandatory in the Russian literature or official documents and is usually replaced with е, it has created a number of alternative spellings and readings (or misreadings) and cases of over-correction.
  • [чн] /t͡ɕn/ vs [шн] /ʂn/ in certain words or word forms continues to be considered "Moscow" and "Saint Petersburg" standards even if one or the other is now dominating and is considered standard.
