Inherited from Bulgarبيال(biyel, five),[1] itself inherited from Proto-Turkic *bẹ̄ĺ (five).[2][3]

Cognate with Khalaj bêş, Turkish beş, Karakhanidبٖيشْ(bḗš, five), Uzbek besh, Bashkir биш (biş), Old Turkic𐰋𐰃𐱁(béš, five) and Yakut биэс (bies).
