From Proto-Turkic *biĺč- (“to ripen”). Cognate with Turkish pişmek, Azerbaijani bişmək, Bashkir бешеү (beşew), Kazakh пісу (pısu), Kyrgyz бышуу (bışuu), Yakut бус (bus).
