Borrowed from Russian Church Slavonic приверженъ (priverženŭ), originally past passive participle of *привергнꙋти (*privergnuti); compare Russian Church Slavonic привергнꙋтисѧ (privergnutisę, to be committed to), Old Church Slavonic приврѣшти (privrěšti, to strike), and Russian отве́рженный (otvéržennyj), originally past passive participle of отве́ргнуть (otvérgnutʹ).
