сокруша́ть (sokrušátʹ) +‎ -ся (-sja). Note the same sense evolution with cognate Proto-Germanic *hrewwaną (whence English rue (to repent or regret a past action or event)).

Also compare typologically Czech truchlit (< Proto-Slavic *truxlъ, whence also трухля́вый (truxljávyj), akin to труха́ (truxá)); Latin doleō (to hurt, to suffer; to be sorry, to grieve for), condoleō (akin to dolō < Proto-Indo-European *delh₁-).
