[edit]Inherited from Old Ruthenian сѣмьꙗ (sěmʹja), from Old East Slavic сѣмиꙗ (sěmija), from Proto-Slavic *sěmьjà. Cognate with Russian семья́ (semʹjá) and Ukrainian сім'я́ (simʺjá).
