Etymology 1

Probably related to тук (tuk, fat, lard), тыть (tytʹ, тучнеть, to grow stout/fat, to put on flesh) as Russian кры́ша (krýša, roof) related to Russian крыть (krytʹ, to cover, to roof) (Vasmer, Shansky, Tsyganenko). Alternatively related to ту́хнуть (túxnutʹ) (mentioned by Vasmer); or to то́щий (tóščij), or from Turkic (Chernych).
