Bashkir

Etymology

From *tïš (outside, exterior), which appears to be an archetype parallel to *taš (outside, exterior), which derives from Proto-Turkic *daĺ (outer side).

There is no consensus to date as to how *tïš relates to *daĺ — is the former a development of the latter or an ancient parallel archetype.

Cognate with Kazakh тыс (tys, outside, exterior part; outdoors; outside, beyond), Kumyk тыш (tış, exterior), Karachay-Balkar тыш (tış, exterior part; cover, case), Kyrgyz тыш (tış, exterior; outdoors), Southern Altai тыш (tïš, exterior), Turkish dış (outside exterior part),
