Etymology[edit]

Formed in Armenian as ամ (am) +‎ -լիկ (-lik), or derived through syncope from Old Armenian *ամալիկ (*amalik), from Proto-Indo-European *sm̥H-l- (see ամ (am)), -իկ (-ik). A parallel is found in Old Norse simull (one-year-old ox), Norwegian simla.
