From *արբ-ան-ի (*arb-an-i, youth, orphan) +‎ -ակ (-ak, diminutive suffix), from a Proto-Indo-European root which also yielded Sanskrit अर्भ (árbha, little, small; boy), Old Church Slavonic рабъ (rabŭ), работа (rabota) (Russian раб (rab), работа (rabota)), Old Armenian որբ (orb).
