Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From *արբ-ան-ի ‎(*arb-an-i, youth, orphan) +‎ -ակ ‎(-ak, diminutive suffix), from a Proto-Indo-European root which also yielded Sanskrit अर्भ ‎(árbha, little, small; boy), Old Church Slavonic рабъ ‎(rabŭ), работа ‎(rabota) (Russian раб ‎(rab), работа ‎(rabota)), Old Armenian որբ ‎(orb). An Iranian origin has also been suggested.
