Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *lig-, *leyg-. Cognate with Lithuanian liūgas (puddle), Latvian Ludza (place name in Latvia), Russian лужа (luža) and Albanian lëgatë (puddle). See also լիճ (lič).
