From earlier *խորհ ‎(*xorh), from Middle Iranian *xvarh. Compare Persian خوال ‎(xvāl, food). The spelling խահ ‎(xah) is from earlier *խարհ ‎(*xarh), from the same Iranian source. The forms խոխ ‎(xox) and խախ- ‎(xax-) reflect dialectal/post-classical developments.
