Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₁su-, either via Proto-Iranian *hu- (“good”) or contaminated with it.

Prefix

հ- • (h-)

1. an intensifying particle.

   ‎հ- (h-) + ‎սկայ (skay, “giant”) → ‎հսկայ (hskay, “giant”)

   ‎հ- (h-) + ‎զօր (zōr, “power, might”) → ‎հզօր (hzōr, “powerful, mighty”)

   ‎հ- (h-) + ‎մուտ (mut, “entering, going in”) → ‎հմուտ (hmut, “skilful, experienced”)

   ‎հ- (h-) + ‎լու (lu, “the act of listening”) → ‎հլու (hlu, “obedient”)

   ‎հ- (h-) + ‎ուրախ (urax, “happy”) → ‎խրախ (xrax, “happy”)
