Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Back-formation from հեղձամղձուկ ‎(hełjamłjuk). Alternatively, an independent word from a root մուղձ- ‎(mułj-) of uncertain origin, +‎ -ուկ ‎(-uk); for this root compare մղձաւանջ ‎(młjawanǰ) and մղձաժէտ ‎(młjažēt).
