[edit]From Old Armenian *շիտակ (*šitak), attested in the compounds ստեղնաշիտակ (stełnašitak) and գեղաշիտակ (gełašitak), borrowed from Iranian: compare Middle Persian [script needed] (šētak, “just, righteous, correct”) attested in Matigan-i Hazar Datistan 79:8.[1][2]
