Borrowed from Aramaic אוּמָּנָא (ʾūmmānā, artist, artisan, craftsman) (Classical Syriac ܐܽܘܡܳܢܳܐ), from Akkadian 𒌝𒈪𒀀 (UM.MI.A /⁠ʾummānu⁠/, expert, artisan, artist, craftsman, foreman).[1][2][3]
