1. (Judaism) Kislev (the third month of the civil year and the ninth month of the ecclesiastical year in the Jewish calendar, after Cheshvan and before Tevet)
   • Tanach, Ezra 1:1, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     דִּבְרֵי נְחֶמְיָה בֶּן־חֲכַלְיָה וַיְהִי בְחֹדֶשׁ־כִּסְלֵו שְׁנַת עֶשְׂרִים וַאֲנִי הָיִיתִי בְּשׁוּשַׁן הַבִּירָה׃

     Divréi Nḥemyá ben-Ḥăkhalyá - vayhí v-ḥódesh Kislév shnat 'esrím va-aní hayíti b-Shushán ha-birá.

     The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it came to pass in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the castle,

     הִגִּיעַ רֹאשׁ חֹדֶשׁ כִּסְלֵו וְלֹא יָרְדוּ גְשָׁמִים, בֵּית דִּין גּוֹזְרִין שָׁלשׁ תַּעֲנִיוֹת עַל הַצִּבּוּר.

     Higía' Rosh Ḥódesh Kislév v-lo yardú g'shamím, beit din gozrín shalósh ta'aniyót 'al ha-tsibbúr.

     If the new moon of Kislev has arrived and no rain has fallen, the court ordains three fasts upon the community.

     דְּבָרִים שֶׁאָמַר חֲנָנִי לִנְחֶמְיָה בְּכִסְלֵיו, אֲמָרָן נְחֶמְיָה לַמֶּלֶךְ בְּנִיסָן.

     D'varím she-amár Ḥananí li-Nḥemyá b-Khislev, amarán Nḥemyá la-mélekh b-Nisan.

     The words that Hanani said to Nehemiah in Kislev, Nehemiah said to the king in Nisan.
