بوستانجی (bostancı)

  2. a class of men, park ranger, bostanji, at the Sultan’s court, whose work has increased in time from tending the seraglio’s garden to mounting guard, rowing the Sultan’s barge, rowing the caiques of all the officers, and following them on business through the city, and also doing military duty with the janissaries, but not disbanded with them
