[edit]From Middle Persian [script needed] (tndr /tundar, tundur/), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stánati, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tenh₂-.
Cognate with Parthian [Manichaean needed] (tndwr /tandur/), Sogdian [script needed] (twntr /tundar/), Sanskrit स्तनति (stanati, “to resound; to thunder”), English thunder.
