Borrowed from Arabic جَاه (jāh), from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gʾs), 𐫃𐫀𐫍 (gʾh /⁠gāh⁠/, place, throne, bed; time). Doublet of گاه (gâh), see there for more.
