Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Iranian *haič- (to pour), from Proto-Indo-European *seykʷ- (to moisten). Cognate with Sanskrit सेक (seka, sprinkling; moistening), Ancient Greek ἰκμᾰ́ς (ikmás, wetness), possibly Proto-Germanic *saiwiz (sea, lake, ocean).
