Etymology[edit]

From Middle Persian dl(ʾ)ht' (draxt, tree). Cognate with Manichaean Middle Persian drxt (draxt), Manichaean Parthian drxt (draxt), Northern Kurdish derext, Baluchi درچک (diračk, tree). Compare also the Iranian borrowings: Aramaic drḥt (tree), Old Armenian դրախտ (draxt, garden; paradise).
