Etymology

    دو (do) +‎ شنبه (šanbe), literally two (days after) Saturday. From Manichaean Middle Persian 𐫅𐫇𐫢𐫖𐫁𐫎 (dwšmbṯ /⁠dōšambat⁠/, Monday). The name of the city derives from the large bazaar that occurred on Mondays in the area.
