Etymology 1

From Middle Persian [script needed] ((ʾ)sym /⁠(a)sēm⁠/), from Ancient Greek ἄσημον (ásēmon, silverware), neuter form of ἄσημος (ásēmos, pure, unmarked). Akin to Parthian hsym (hasēm, silver), Bactrian σιμινο (simino, made of silver, silverware).
