From Aramaic שִׁיבְתָא (šiḇəṯā), ܫܒܷܬܴ݁ܐ (šəḇettā), from Akkadian 𒅆𒂍𒌈 (/⁠šibittu⁠/). Cognate to Hebrew שֶׁבֶת (šéḇeṯ) and Persian شوید (ševid).
