Etymology

Derived from the active participle of غَلَا (ḡalā, to be excessive, to be or become expensive), from the root غ ل و (ḡ-l-w).

Adjective

غَالٍ (ḡālin) (construct state غَالِي (ḡālī), masculine plural غَالُونَ (ḡālūna), feminine plural غَالِيَات (ḡāliyāt), elative أَغْلَى (ʔaḡlā))

  1. expensive (having a high price), dear, costly, precious
  2. boiling, seething
