[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kamïĺ; cognate with Azerbaijani qamış, Bashkir ҡамыш (qamış), Chuvash хӑмӑл (hămăl), Kazakh қамыс (qamys), Kyrgyz камыш (kamış), Tatar камыш (qamış), Turkmen gamyş, Uzbek qamish and Yakut хомус (qomus)
