Etymology 2
From the root ل ف ت (l-f-t) in the sense of twisting or wringing out of the ground, "to pull up or extract". Compare Hebrew לֶפֶת (lefet, “turnip”), Classical Syriac ܠܰܦܬܳܐ (laftā, “turnip”), and Akkadian 𒇻𒂠𒊬 (LU.UB2.SAR /laptu, liptu/, “turnip”).
