From حَالَ (ḥāla, to intervene, to interfere), from the root ح و ل (ḥ-w-l).

مَحَالَة (maḥālaf (plural مَحَالَات (maḥālāt) or مَحَاوِل (maḥāwil))

  1. means of escape, avoiding
    هُوَ آتٍ لَا مَحَالَةَ.
    huwa ʔātin lā maḥālata.
