Etymology[edit]

From Middle Persian [script needed] (nzdyk' /nazdīk/), from Proto-Iranian *názdyah. One of a few adjectives that has preserved the final -g/k phoneme and did not undergo the regular sound change from Middle Persian to Modern Persian. Others include تاریک(târik, dark) and باریک(bârik, slender).
