From Proto-Semitic *naśaʔ- (lift, raise). Compare Ge'ez ነሥአ (näśʾä, to lift, to take), Akkadian 𒈾𒋗𒌑𒌝 (našûm) and Biblical Hebrew נָשָׂא(nɔśɔʾ).
