Occupational noun from the root ن ق ر (n-q-r).

نَقَّار (naqqārm (plural نَقَّارُون (naqqārūn))

  1. pecker (Picus spp.)
  2. somebody who habitually or as a profession whittles, carves
  3. somebody who makes a knocking sound, as playing an instrument the sound of which can be described by the verb نَقَرَ (naqara), a نَقَّارَة (naqqāra) or نَاقُور (nāqūr)
