پوستین (pustin)

  1. winter fur or leather coat
    • c. 1260, Saʿdī, “Rubaʿī 18”, in دیوان سعدی [The Divān of Saʿdī]‎[1]:
آن ماه که گفتی ملک رحمانست
این بار اگرش نگه کنی شیطانست
رویی که چو آتش به زمستان خوش بود
      امروز چو پوستین به تابستانست
ān māh ki guftī malak-i rahmān ast
īn bār agar-aš nigah kunī šaytān ast
rōyē ki čō ātiš ba zimistān xwaš būd
imrōz čō pōstēn ba tābistān ast
That beauty whom you said was the angel of the Lord:
If you see him this time, he is the Devil!
That face which was pleasant like fire in winter,
Is today like a fur coat in summer.
      (Classical Persian transliteration.)
(The poem references the growth of facial hair, which spoils the beauty of the adolescent male beloved.)
