From Aramaic כּוּכִּיתָא (kukkīṯā), through borrowed Arabic كُوخ (kūḵ), ultimately from Akkadian 𒆠𒅅𒆠𒋙 (kikkiš, reed wall or fence; reed hut); cognate with Classical Syriac ܟܘܟܝܬܐ (kukkīṯā), Persian کوخ (hut, shack) and Georgian ქოხი (koxi, cabin, shack). Doublet of ܟܘܼܪܚܵܐ (kurḥā, kiosk, stall).
